First week in Cody, Wyoming

The drive from Granby, Colorado to Cody, Wyoming was definitely the longest one that we’ve had so far. Pretty much the entire drive was a one lane narrow road. We drove for about 4 hours, then stopped half way at a truck stop, where we pulled out our slides and made our lunch in the RV, rested for a bit before hitting the road again for the remaining half of our trip. It was pretty cool to be able to do that instead of going to a truck stop restaurant for lunch. We got to Buffalo Bluff RV Park a little after 5pm last Saturday, just in time to catch the beautiful sunset that we’ve been spoiled with daily, in our spot #2. We don’t have anyone behind us here, so we get to take in the beautiful backdrop of nature. We’re definitely loving it! This park is pretty new and the family who owns it, lives at the farm on the property. We don’t have any fun resort amenities here like we have been spoiled with, but to be honest, we don’t really use them anyway since we are out and about. The front office staff have been super sweet, perfect little spot to call home for the month!

Just one week into Wyoming and we already feel so welcomed. First thing Sunday morning before heading out for brunch, we met our awesome neighbors, Sharon & John! This couple is definitely one of my favorites so far that we’ve met on our adventures. They have been traveling for a little over 18 months now, starting out from Texas and have been all over the states hiking every trail they can. It’s always so inspiring seeing full timer’s who are really out there seeking adventure and just taking in all that nature has to offer. Sharon paints rocks and on her travels, she leaves them at different locations in national parks or on their hikes for people to find. She has her Facebook written on the back on her rocks with the hopes that her Gem finders will post them so she can connect with people and spread love around the world. It’s the cutest thing and she’s inspired me to paint a little bit myself! Definitely love meeting amazing people like Sharon and her husband John who brightened up our days before they had to take off to their new home. Thank you Sharon and John for our evening walk and for the great company! We love you guys! And here is Sharon’s FB: gypsy rockin-gammy if you’d like to check out her rocks and follow along on her travels!

One of the first things Mike and I wanted to do when we drove into Wyoming was to get more fireworks! Fourth of July fireworks in Colorado was so much fun, and knowing that Wyoming was our next stop, we had to get some! Fireworks in Wyoming are not the same like back in CA, these will definitely put on a nice show! We found the Fireworks Factory Outlet just 5 minutes away from home where Mike was a little kid in a candy store, haha! We’re excited to hopefully play with them soon, I’m just not sure where and when.

Friday night, Date night! I love horses, so of course I wanted to go see the Rodeo! Cody has the Rodeo Capital of the World. They have a Rodeo show nightly from June 1st to August 31st annually. Since being on the road, I have not dressed up much, so of course when I was in town I had to shop for a cute outfit for the Rodeo! I picked up earrings and a cute crop top at the cutest little boutique with the sweetest owner and the most adorable shop dog, Blue at The Pretty Buffalo and I got a super cute pair of boots at the Boot Barn! So fun to dress up every once in a while and not feel like I’m living in a trailer and ‘camping’ everyday. For dinner, we had the buffet at Wyoming Roadhouse. Mike loves BBQ so I think we’ll be going back to more BBQ restaurants here, since there are so many to choose from! The server, Dominick, was a sweet young man who made sure to pamper us even while he had so many tables to care for. After dinner we were off to the rodeo! They started off with bucking horse, they had cattle roping, horse racing and a fun Rodeo Clown hosting the show. I’ve never been to a Rodeo before and didn’t really know what to expect and I had a pretty good time! None of the animals were hurt and everyone was just there to have a good time.

The following day, we got up before the sun to hit the road and head out to Yellowstone National Park. After about an hour drive to the park, we were rewarded with the sighting of a buffalo crossing the road right after the East Entrance by the Fishing Bridge Campground. We saw a few more through out the day, and we even saw a male Elk! Our first stop was at West Thumb. This spot is a gem. It was a great way to start to such an amazing full 12 hour day! Thank you Sharon & John for making sure we made this stop on our trip! Old Faithful was next, then we stopped at Gibbon Falls, Canyon Village Lower & Upper Falls and lastly at Sulphur Caldron. Yellowstone is a huge national park so we definitely missed a lot gems along the way. We only did the lower half of the park this past weekend, so we’ve already planned to return! We captured some beautiful images, but the videos are even better!

Sunday we went on a rafting/kayaking tour with Cody Wyoming Adventures in the Shoshone River. Our tour guide Tommy was so much fun and was very knowledgable about the history that surrounded the 12.5 miles that we traveled along the river. We shared a raft with such a fun amazing group of friends. #BOYMOM aka Michelle and I kicked it off immediately when we were both checking in that morning. We had 9 on the raft for the first 5.5 miles and thats where we got most our laughs and fun in with the group. After a brief lunch break, a few of the other trickled off and it free’d up a kayak so Mike and I hopped right in! It was Mike’s first time kayaking. Tommy warned us that these ‘duckies’ are known to be Divorce Duckies, haha! The first little bit was rough, but as we continued along (maybe when I finally listened, haha) we started to get the hang of it and we learned how to fight against the water instead of each-other! haha Mike picked up how to steer since he was in the back and I learned to just be the little engine that could and paddle my heart out whenever he shouted ‘paddle!’ The second 7 miles were so much fun since you can go a lot quicker on the duckies. We had so much fun! Kinda would be awesome to have our own inflatable kayak of our own! We had more laughs along side with the group. Kyle had been riding the bull down the river (nose of the raft), Tommy sneakily poked him off the bull with his paddle! He jumped back on board and thought his friend Dylan did it and he got pushed off! haha it was a great time! We continued our laughs together at the Silver Dollar Bar over a few drinks and the world’s longest game ever of Uno! It was a perfect ending to our first week in Cody!

This Week has already started off with our friends, Craig & Felicia visiting for the first half of the week, we are so happy to spend time with them and go explore what Cody Wyoming has to offer! We do have to work during the day, but since the sun doesn’t go down until around 9, I’m hoping we can go explore in the evenings! We’ve booked a room at the Canyon Village Lodge for this coming up weekend and we’ll be heading back to explore the upper half of Yellowstone! I am so excited to capture the beauty and hopefully see more wild life! We know it’s going to be be another long day of driving, so we decided to stay a night to rest and hopefully visit a couple gems on Sunday also before heading back home to Cody. It’s only Tuesday and we already have a full week planned! Enjoying every moment of it!
