We spent two months in Portland, Oregon. Our travels this year have been a bit different than last year in that, we are not booking our stays too far in advance. We are allowing events help guide us through our journey this year. And although it may seem like the honeymoon stage is over, we have to keep in mind that we still have our day to day normal life events that we must tend to. Two months is probably the longest length of duration we’ve stayed at one location since we’ve started this nomad lifestyle.
Family & friends who become family. That’s who we got to see here in Portland. Mike’s Dad and brother live in Washington, just a few miles away from us and one of my best friends, Naomi lives here. It feels so good to be close. Two months went by too quickly with our loved ones. We shared so many stories around delicious homemade meals. We’ve made so many memories during our time here with them and a few others. Bike rides, shuffle board, darts, Crossfit, disk golf, shooting range, coffee & boba dates…and all the good food you can think of. That basically sums up the activities we did in Oregon/Washington.
Portland has so much culture. So much spunky, fun weirdness. I understand why they say, “Keep Portland Weird” now, people watching is definitely entertaining in the city. There are so many characters and so many different personalities. All of which are accepted here! Portland makes you feel welcome because there are so many implants living here. Being different, is the norm here. The small city feel with so many mom & pop restaurants, definitely make Portland hands down, our favorite city for food so far. Downtown Vancouver also has some good spots! Mike’s favorite spot was Little Conejo, we definitely went here the most over all the other restaurants. Their tacos are amazing, melt in your mouth good. I hear their tortas are huge and delicious also, but we couldn’t stop ordering tacos each time we went. The margarita’s there are amazing per Mike, and the whole restaurant just has great vibes. It’s almost always busy there, but its definitely worth the wait. Oooh, and if you’re in the mood for Pizza, Atlas Pizza is delicious! So thankful to our crossfit buddies, Erin & Glenn for suggesting it to us! It was our last meal tonight!
We also spent a majority of our time just settling into our new home. We had already a couple of projects. One of the best things we did was make more room to store our snacks. Given the small, tight spaces in an RV, we are definitely lacking space for storage. I am so happy Mike thought of converting our coat closet into a pantry simply by adding a few adjustable shelves! He took the little hooks off and put them in another location that fits perfectly for coats so we didn’t lose any functionality at all! We have a few more projects on the list of things to do for the rig, hopefully getting out of this rainy weather, yes rainy weather in May here…it even snowed and hailed in April! Anyway…I digress, once we get out of this weather we will be able to tackle our many projects and get our rig feeling even more like home.
We are looking forward to getting back on the road and seeing new places and people. There’s so much to see, and it feels like we have so little time. We’re making our way towards California to get a couple errands done, stopping by at Crater Lake first. Then after our errands, we plan to visit near Bend, Oregon for a bit before heading towards Boise, Idaho. That’s all we got planned out so far and looking forward to travel into more areas we haven’t seen before. Ready, set….go! I am so ready to hit the road!
